Pokémon Go is now on millions of smartphones worldwide meaning its social effects are strong. No wonder the app influenced plenty of businesses in many ways. For some it’s a great opportunity to attract possible customers but others suffer because of a Pokéstop or a Gym located on their property. And here are some instructions for such businesses.
The main problem is that while searching for Pokémon many trainers are willing to go almost anywhere. As a result, some businesses suffer from random people walking around their lobbies or even trespassing. And there will be dozens of unwanted visitors if your office is a Pokéstop or a Pokémon Gym. In this case you can appeal for removal.
Of course, your request might be ignored and Pokémon trainers might go on invading your property. If this is the case, try to make a request again.
A few years ago Niantic Labs, the company behind Pokémon Go, launched Ingress – the app where people had to fight over portals. These very portals have now been turned into Pokéstop s and Gyms. So you can check the Ingress Intel Map if you want to find out the Pokémon Go status of your business. Look for a green or blue dot over it, click it and if it identifies your business, there’s probably a Pokéstop or a Gym here. Another way to check is to install Pokémon Go.
The effects of Pokémon Go mania are controversial. For owners of cafes or restaurants, as well as for retailers the game is a bliss, because Pokémon trainers are potential customers. But there have also been problems. Trespassing, phone-walking, irresponsible driving and even a robbery – all these things already happen because of the excitement over Pokémon Go. That’s why some businesses’ unwillingness to be a part of it is understandable.
